Keep meme captions readable in pictures and GIFs
Add top, bottom and extra captions to a still image or animated GIF. Overlay text preserves the picture area; caption bars add space above or below it. Use images you have permission to share.
Step by step
- Open a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. Add short captions, then select the caption you want to style.
- Adjust font, outline, color and position. Drag overlay captions or use position sliders; choose bars when text obscures the subject.
- For a still image, choose the output format. For a GIF, choose its maximum edge and download the animated result.
Settings and limits
- Caption size and wrapping
- Text size follows image width, and long lines wrap. Shorten the caption before increasing size if it covers the picture.
- Overlay versus bars
- Overlay captions sit on the picture. Top and bottom bars increase output height and keep those captions centered.
- Animated export
- GIF input exports as GIF with captions on every frame. Frame timing and loop count are retained; palette colors can change.
Worked example
Open animation-sample.gif and add SAMPLE as a top overlay caption. The input has 2 frames on a 320 × 160 canvas.

Questions and troubleshooting
Why does my chosen font look different?
Fonts depend on those available on the device, with fallbacks. Check the downloaded result on the device doing the export.
Why is an animated file rejected?
GIF decoding has file, image and frame limits. Try a shorter or smaller GIF; animated WebP is not supported as an animation.
Why did the exported GIF change colors?
GIF export quantizes colors into a palette. Gradients and transparency can change; inspect the animation before sharing it.
